Partnership for the Sounds - Mission Statement
The Partnership for The Sounds and its Mission

The Partnership for The Sounds promotes sustainable, community-driven economic well-being and stewardship in the Albemarle-Pamlico region through environmental education and nature-based and cultural tourism.

PfS partners with many other organizations on programs relating to the ecology, heritage, and economic development of the region that includes Beaufort, Bertie, Hyde, and Tyrrell counties as well as surrounding areas.

“Sustainable development” implies that as those of us alive today strive to improve the quality of human life, we have an obligation to also conserve natural resources and protect the earth’s environment so that future generations will have a healthy and ecologically rich planet. The Partnership tries to do this through tourism centered on The Sound’s natural areas, waterways, and wildlife, which can both provide economic opportunity in this region and encourage preservation of natural and cultural heritage. We believe the environmental resources of The Sounds should be protected for their own sake, but also that the well-being of those resources can be part of a vibrant regional economy.
