The Walter B. Jones Sr. Center for The Sounds is located next door to the Tyrrell County Visitor’s Center. Exhibits in this educational facility highlight the pocosins and blackwater rivers that characterize the northern Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula. Enjoy a 10-minute film on the national wildlife refuge system, or take a stroll along the Scuppernong River Interpretive Boardwalk and visit the outdoor classroom. The Walter B. Jones Sr. Center for The Sounds also serves as headquarters for the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. PfS administers the Center’s Exhibit Hall and Gift Shop through a cooperative agreement with the Refuge and staffs it with part-time personnel.
