Learn about the Civil War's "Battle of Windsor" at the Roanoke/Cashie River Center. This was one of the few actual skirmishes between Union and Confederate forces in eastern NC, which was taken under Union control early in the conflict. Created in conjunction with local historian Harry Thompson, this display includes rifles, cannonballs, bullets, and other artifacts of the battle recovered in the Windsor area. An additional component is an interactive map depicting how the conflict unfolded with a voice over narration by Thompson. New artifacts are being added periodically.
