Located in the Lake Landing National Historic District in Engelhard, NC, this eight-sided structure was built in 1857 with no posts, except for the windows and doors. The large chimney that runs through the center of the two-story house accommodates four different fireplaces. While on the National Register for Historic Places, the Octagon House offers visitor information for other sites in Hyde County. Various Mattamuskeet Refuge and Lodge items are available for sale.
The Partnership for The Sounds supports Octagon House Restoration, Inc., in operating the Octagon House.
