Directions to the North Carolina Estuarium

The Estuarium is located at 223 E. Water Street, on the Pamlico River waterfront in downtown Washington, NC.

Free streetside parking available and in parking lot across the street.

 Traveling on U.S. 17 from NORTH of Washington (from Williamston, Elizabeth City, etc.):
*NOTE: A new U.S. 17 Bypass around Washington was opened in April 2010.
Take  U.S. 17 Business (a left turn) as you near Washington
1. You will encounter several stoplights. U.S. 17 becomes Bridge Street inside the Washington city limits.
1. Turn left onto Main Street (the 8th and last stoplight you meet before crossing the Pamlico River bridge).
2. Just before the first stoplight on Main, bear right onto Stewart Parkway.
3. Follow Stewart Parkway for 3 blocks, Estuarium will be on right.

Traveling on U.S. 17 from SOUTH of Washington (from New Bern, Jacksonville, etc.):
*NOTE: A new U.S. 17 Bypass around Washington was opened in April 2010.
To follow directions below, take U.S. 17 BUSINESS before reaching Chocowinity.
1. Follow 17 Business through Chocowinity and across Pamlico River Bridge.
2. At foot of bridge (Washington side), bear right onto Main Street, which is the first stoplight you will encounter after crossing the Pamlico.
3. Just before the first stoplight on Main, bear right onto Stewart Parkway.
4. Follow Stewart Parkway for 3 blocks, Estuarium will be on right.

Traveling on U.S. 264 from WEST of Washington (from Wilson, Raleigh, etc.):

If traveling from west of Wilson:
1. Follow U.S. 264 East (264 splits from U.S. 64 just past Zebulon).
2. As you approach Wilson, do NOT take the U.S. 264 Alternate Exit at Wilson. Stay on the main route of 264.

From west of Greenville:
1. As you approach Greenville, take the Off Ramp for U.S. 264 Bypass (East) to Washington. Do NOT continue straight towards Pitt County Hospital.
2. After several miles on the Bypass you will come to a series of stoplights. At the 5th stoplight  turn left to continue on 264 East to Washington (the light is just past a group of large brick buildings on the left called North Campus Crossing).

From Greenville:
1. Follow 264 to Washington. NOTE: U.S. 264 becomes 5th Street inside the Washington city limits.
2. After encountering several stoplights you will reach a light at Market Street. Turn right from 5th onto Market Street (at Fire Station).
3. Follow Market for 6 blocks until it dead-ends at Water Street. Turn left.
4. Estuarium will be one block ahead on right.

 
Traveling on U.S. 264 from EAST of Washington (from Belhaven, Hyde County, etc.):
NOTE: U.S. 264 becomes John Small Avenue and then 5th Street inside the Washington City limits.
1. Turn left from 5th Street onto Market Street (Fire Station is across the intersection).
2. Follow Market 6 blocks until it dead-ends at Water Street. Turn left.
3. Estuarium will be one block ahead on right.

Traveling on Highway 32 from NORTHEAST of Washington (from Plymouth, Manteo, etc.):

1. If traveling from east of Plymouth, follow U.S. 64 West to the intersection with Highway 32 South in Plymouth. Turn left onto 32.
2. After about 25 miles, you will approach U.S. 264 outside Washington.
3. Bear right (west) onto U.S. 264 at 32/264 intersection; follow into Washington (app. 6 miles).

NOTE: U.S. 264 becomes John Small Avenue and then 5th Street inside the Washington city limits.
1. Turn left from 5th Street onto Market Street (at Fire Station).
2. Follow Market 6 blocks until it dead-ends at Water Street. Turn left. Estuarium will be one block ahead on right.

Program Fees
Add a $2 program fee per group member for a total of $4 per student. Adult guests accompanying school groups pay only the $4 admission fee.
